Jim I agree with your assesment another important factor in comparing the two modes of power as applied to the farm scene is sea level.......As I am sure many of us have forgotten but certainly not the manufaterers of heavy equipt. a deisel engine shows no apprecible power band loss at higher altitudes but gaslone must be tweeked to maximize the thinning of the air it must have to burn cleanly. Again that was the ultimate downfall of the piston driven aircraft high tec combustion engines could not get the aircraft to the new operating ceilings that where demanded of them hence the turbo and then the jet...

I am sure you are aware the only differnce id 2hp but the 445 has a taller stance with larger tires....a new 425 out of the bow with a 54" mower is $7850 a ne 445 with a 60" mower is $8850

Kenny is right the JD 900HC was and experiment as was build for two years less the 2000 where built...I have one and it's great....the old Cub layout....the was one for sale on this web sit with very low hrs on it about two weeks ago....the 900HC is basically a 950 so all the parts are available...

Weight is the name of the game....that's why all tractor maufaterers sell weight kits to add beneficial weight to the front as well as the rear tires of all tractors....and those weights can get pretty expensive....think torque & weight not HP...deseal engines are designed to pull great loads effectively and efficiently but they produce large torque bands far supperior to gas engines...we always look at HP because we are so familiar with the autos we have grown to love....that's not the deal with the new geneation of deisel tractors

Zetor is a great tractor for the money but you have hit the nail right on the head.....dealers and parts that newness goes real fast on farm machinery only the payments are constant. Zetor is the fanshise manufaturer in eastern Europe for John Deere....All Zetors are distrubuted through the port of Houston you can try to get info thst way.

You have several problems here. First if the soil is virgin and has not been plowed unless you purchase a pto driven tiller as the one man suggested you are going to need a larger tractor to bust up that property to start with. Once the property has been opened up a smaller tractor with a small set of gang discs will handle the job for many years to come.But a smaller tractor today althoght having a lot of HP it is difficult to find a GOOD two bottom plow that has the heft and workmanship to get that property openned up so you can work if efficiently. A tractor in that HP range will not handle any more than a two bottom plow....so we are back to the pto tiller....the tiller althogh expensive is what most of the tractor manufatures are pushing today because they do the job, are expensive and yoy really need to know how to plow a fiels with a tradition bottom plow...the tiller eliminates all that.

I definitly agree the Japanese engines and workmanship on the small frame tractors are superior to anything else.
I highly recommend John Deere although they can be pricey the overall layout of their machines make a lot of cense and there customer service and parts networks are unsurpassed in the industry. After all that's what you are paying for......Try to go with a Deere
